More heat is generated in the body which makes a person feel irritable, tired and have trouble sleeping. Even the digestive system does not function properly and constipation is an easy occurrence.

Keeping yourself hydrated through water and juices is a crucial step, but one must have the right foods to stay fit and healthy. Some Indian foods can create havoc and should be best avoided. Here are the foods that one should stay from:

Blog 1

Spice: Indian foods are known for its thick gravies and curries which are laden with spice. Although they are tasty but the spices also heat up the body as they boost the rate of metabolism. It is best to use a minimal amount of spice in food if not able to do away with it entirely.

Non-vegetarian: This is not the best climate to dig into non-veg buffets and tandoors. Chicken, meat and seafood should be avoided as they makes a person sweat more and cause digestive problems. They can also be a cause of diarrhea.

Oily junk food: Burgers, french fries, pakoras are a strict no-no during summer. They elevate body temperature and are hard to digest.

Blog 2

Tea and coffee- Excess tea and coffee is never good but during summer these should be avoided, as caffeine and sugar dehydrate the body.

Sauce: Cheese sauces should be best left alone as they are rich in calories and leaves one bloated and sluggish.

Chilled drinks: Drinking chilled drinks might give a temporary cooling effect but are not good for health as they constrict blood vessels and decrease heat loss. Also they are the cause for cold and flu.

Blog 4

Dried fruits – Avoid dried fruits as they are high in calories and increase body heat, instead switch to fresh fruits.

Stay healthy by avoiding these food items and you’ll surely have a healthy summer. Enjoy blue skies and make hay while the sun shines!

How to be happy in office

If you’re employed then chances are that you’d be spending more time at office than at home. Hence it is more important that you should be happy and relaxed at work. But with work stress, grueling office hours, back stabbing colleagues, pesky managers, tyrant bosses, poor pay packages, office politics and favouritism it is much easier said than done. Job stress takes a huge toll on health and well being and changing jobs is not a permanent solution. So what should be the alternative? Here are some ways which would help you stay happy in office.

Food – Food is an aphrodisiac that can cure a bad day and a bad mood in no time. Once in a while forget your home-cooked food and the boring canteen fare. Have a team lunch or go out with colleagues. Take-away is also a great option if you have time constraints. What better way to bond with your colleagues than over food?

Be optimistic – Your work problems are not going to disappear with a snap of your fingers. Being optimistic and having a positive attitude towards work would actually culminate in a happier workplace and happier you.

Attitude- Even though you might hate your job but still try to make the most of it. Take things as they come, be proactive and increase your efficiency. Make fewer mistakes and try to learn something from your job and try to enhance your skills before you move on.

Be friendly – A friendly face or colleagues can make a huge difference to your work life. Befriend others as they might be stuck in the same rut as you. Don’t be aloof as this may cause you to be left alone. Be cordial and strike up conversations and help others.

Relax – Working for hectic hours can leave anyone slumped, grumpy and stressed out. So to combat burn out take small 15 minute breaks in between. Take a nap, read jokes or play games online, listen to music or chat up with a friend. If playing games online and napping is not possible then read some humour based article online or listen to some good music.

Gratitude- You might hate your job with a vengeance and might be overburdened with work but still are much better than countless others who are sitting at home jobless. Show gratitude that you have something through which you can earn your bread and butter and can support your family. There are infinite number of people who would be jealous of your working status and would do anything to be in your shoes.

Stand up – Be assertive at workplace. Stand up for yourself, do not be submissive and timid. Many times people who can’t speak up for themselves are taken for granted and overburdened with excess work.

Communicate – Ask for feedback from your manager, good communication skills are paramount since they dispel unnecessary doubts and questions.

Visual – Install a soothing wallpaper on your computer, keep your desktop clean and well organized. Keep some motivating quotes or family photographs pinned on your desk’s soft board, look at these when you’re stressed or under pressure.

Nice stationary – An embossed pen or a diary, sharpened pencil, stylish notebook can all lend some excitement to your mundane office life.

Tea/ Coffee – We all function on these beverages in our office. If you don’t like the tea or coffee served in your office then get some of your own. Brewing an aromatic tea or coffee can actually take away stress and will also be a good break. Stepping out alone or with colleagues for a cuppa is also a great option.

Chocolate/ Sweets – If you have a sweet tooth then indulge in some chocolate or sweets as they bring down stress level considerably. Keep in mind the calorie intake and sugar levels though.

These were a few pointers which when followed can make work life easy. If you have some other tips up your sleeve then please let us know too!

Ways to save electricity bills

With the exorbitant rates by which electricity and utility bills keep on rising, it is more than necessary to start being proactive and saving some power. Notwithstanding the green movement that has been trumpeting the need of conserving electricity, it is also economical for the pockets too. Saving some extra bucks always makes everyone happier. So here are some cool and easy ways to save electricity bills.
1. Switch to CFLs or LEDs- If you’ve not made the change from traditional bulbs to CFLs or LEDs, then now is the time. CFLs and LEDs uses much less power as compared to bulbs and lasts longer as well. Moreover, the white light gives a clearer and brighter light to your home décor.

2. Buy energy saving appliances – Buy appliances which have star rating as these save energy and ultimately uses less power.

3. Minimize phantom loads – ‘Phantom Load’ or ‘Vampire Power’ is the energy an appliance uses when it is not actually turned on. The best way to combat this power consumption is by unplugging the devices.

4. Wash clothes using cold water – By using cold water for washing clothes you save up on energy.

5. Shut doors and close curtains – During summer most Indian households spend a lot of energy on cooling devices. Instead shut doors and close curtains during the day to keep out the hot rays of sun and open them in the evenings so that the cool summer breeze can ventilate your house.

6. Turn off – Switch off the gadgets and appliances that you’re not using. Upon leaving a room ensure that you haven’t left any unattended lights or fans switched on. While leaving your house switch off all the lights and save electricity.

7. Save energy in the kitchen – While using frozen food, thaw them first then only start cooking. Use a microwave oven when heating or cooking as it uses less energy than an electric oven. While cooking cover your pots and pans with lids to consume less gas and reduce the cooking time.

8. In the bathroom – Indian summers are pretty hot and one of the best ways to cool yourself and save electricity is to take cold water showers. It would bring much needed relief and lower your bills as well.
