The summer season brings with it one of the best reasons to let your hair down and explore new places. Vacation is what comes to mind when one is thinking about summer. India has some great hill stations which are best visited during summer. But if you want to be adventurous and a little daring then the world is open with great and exotic places to explore.

10 Ways to ban the tan

The summer season, barring a few good things like mangoes, juicy fruits and summer holidays, spells trouble for most people especially if you want to look your best. No amount of sunscreen, over sized hats, umbrellas and scarves can help you evade and get rid of the tan and the patchy blemished skin it leaves behind. But a few simple home remedies can actually work wonders and help you get rid of the harsh rays of the sun too.

1. Yoghurt and turmeric: A mixture of these ingredients can help soothe and cool the skin. It has a healing effect and reduces any redness or irritation of skin. Apply this mixture to specific areas if you have tanned patches. Let it dry and then wash off with cold water. The mixture results in a glowing and flawless skin and reduces the tan.

2. Potato juice and lemon: This is the perfect recipe and works as a bleach on any dark patches or spots caused by tanning. Applying potato slices also help in reducing tan.

3. Milk and saffron: Milk is known as beautifying agent since time immemorial. Cleopatra was believed to have taken bath with milk. But the properties of milk increases manifold if you add saffron to it. Saffron provides a pinkish tinge to the complexion making your skin look healthier and lovelier.

Foods to avoid during summer season

The soaring mercury outside is sure to get you down and the fact that food can no longer be your mood enhancer, spells trouble for many. One of the major predicament of summer season is to take care of food habits so that one does not fall prey to ill health. More heat is generated in the body which makes a person feel irritable, tired and have trouble sleeping. Even the digestive system does not function properly and constipation is an easy occurrence.

How to be happy in office

If you’re employed then chances are that you’d be spending more time at office than at home. Hence it is more important that you should be happy and relaxed at work. But with work stress, grueling office hours, back stabbing colleagues, pesky managers, tyrant bosses, poor pay packages, office politics and favouritism it is much easier said than done. Job stress takes a huge toll on health and well being and changing jobs is not a permanent solution. So what should be the alternative? Here are some ways which would help you stay happy in office.

Food – Food is an aphrodisiac that can cure a bad day and a bad mood in no time. Once in a while forget your home-cooked food and the boring canteen fare. Have a team lunch or go out with colleagues. Take-away is also a great option if you have time constraints. What better way to bond with your colleagues than over food?

Be optimistic – Your work problems are not going to disappear with a snap of your fingers. Being optimistic and having a positive attitude towards work would actually culminate in a happier workplace and happier you.

Attitude- Even though you might hate your job but still try to make the most of it. Take things as they come, be proactive and increase your efficiency. Make fewer mistakes and try to learn something from your job and try to enhance your skills before you move on.

Be friendly – A friendly face or colleagues can make a huge difference to your work life. Befriend others as they might be stuck in the same rut as you. Don’t be aloof as this may cause you to be left alone. Be cordial and strike up conversations and help others.

Show gratitude that you have something through which you can earn your bread and butter and can support your family. Stand up – Be assertive at workplace. Stand up for yourself, do not be submissive and timid. Many times people who can’t speak up for themselves are taken for granted and overburdened with excess work.

Communicate – Ask for feedback from your manager, good communication skills are paramount since they dispel unnecessary doubts and questions.

Visual – Install a soothing wallpaper on your computer, keep your desktop clean and well organized. Keep some motivating quotes or family photographs pinned on your desk’s soft board, look at these when you’re stressed or under pressure.

Nice stationary – An embossed pen or a diary, sharpened pencil, stylish notebook can all lend some excitement to your mundane office life.

Tea/ Coffee – We all function on these beverages in our office. If you don’t like the tea or coffee served in your office then get some of your own. Brewing an aromatic tea or coffee can actually take away stress and will also be a good break. Stepping out alone or with colleagues for a cuppa is also a great option.

Chocolate/ Sweets – If you have a sweet tooth then indulge in some chocolate or sweets as they bring down stress level considerably. Keep in mind the calorie intake and sugar levels though.

The past year had its ups with movies like The Wolf of the Wall Street, Frozen and 12 Years a Slave ruling the roost and keeping the cash registers buzzing but this year looks like a thrill ride. The summer of 2014 is going to be one helluva season, what with some awesome movies releasing which are sure to make your life more interesting. 1. Rio 2 (April 11)
Animation lovers have a treat lined up with this sequel. The story follows the rebel bird Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg) and his girlfriend Jewel (Anne Hathaway) who travel with their three kids to the Amazon, where Blu faces his fearsome father-in-law (Andy Garcia). This is surely gonna be a treat for the kids!

2. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (May 2)
Marvel Comics beloved Spiderman returns to fight Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Goblin (Harry Osborn). Emma Stone (as Gwen) also stars in this biggie.

3. Godzilla (May 16)
The giant reptile is back again to what it does best i.e stompin’ and chompin’ up cities this time San Francisco and New York are on the platter. The hysterical cast ready to run amok includes Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn and Juliette Binoche.

4. X-Men: Days of Future Past (May 23)
Director Bryan Singer returns with the most reliable superhero franchise of this century after more than a decade. The original cast is back too with a few younger stars who play their young self. Angelina Jolie as the witch in the Sleeping Beauty story, no wonder dreams come true in a fairy tale. This movie is made from the villainness’ viewpoint and we get to see her backstory and hopefully the way she got the ability to turn into a dragon. Elle Fanning plays the dozing damsel, Aurora.

6. Edge of Tomorrow (June 6)
Tom Cruise fighting aliens again. Seems repetitive? But wait, here he is the Earth’s fiercest defender in the future and keeps dying over and over again as in a time-travel loop glitch that keeps sending him to the same day. The movie also co-stars Emily Blunt.

7. How to Train Your Dragon 2 (June 13)
The sequel to the 2010 animated hit adapted from Cressida Cowell’s kids’ book series, finds an older Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) eager to prove himself of his Viking ancestory and fight for peace in his kingdom. His dragon, Toothless is again his best ally.

8. Transformers: Age of Extinction (June 27)
In this flick Michael Bay has replaced Shia LaBeouf with Mark Wahlberg and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley with Nicola Peltz as father and daughter. They reignite the war between Autobots and Decepticons.
